Why Stop in Alcalde Instead of Española or Taos?

Pacing. If you’re leaving Santa Fe headed north, Alcalde arrives at exactly the stretch where most drivers want to pull over, stretch their legs, and reset before the gorge climb. Stopping in Española works, but you’re stopping in the middle of a town. Stopping in Alcalde is a cleaner roadside break with the river already in sight to the west.

Coming back from Taos heading south, the math flips. NM HyLyfe is the last comfortable cannabis stop on NM-68 before you’re back into the Española-Santa Fe corridor and the highway crowd. What You Can Buy in New Mexico (For Out-of-State Visitors)
